CHIN 481 - China in Transition (Study Group) Focuses on topics central to social, economic, and political transitions in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, with a special emphasis on Shanghai. It adopts a culturally immersive, interdisciplinary approach to comprehending changing Chinese lifestyles from perspectives that may include consumer culture, gender, workplace relations, ethnic diversity, and the environment. The course typically includes a cultural immersion internship and is enriched by readings, video viewings, guest lectures, and discussion. The goal is to arrive at an understanding of contemporary issues in China through both analysis and experience.
