ENGL 405 - The Brontes A consideration of the major works of the Brontës: Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre and Villette, Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, and Anne Brontë’s Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. This seminar also examines Brontë biography, taking Elizabeth Gaskell’s The Life of Charlotte Brontë as its point of departure. Students gain an understanding of the Brontës’ literary and social contexts; they also gain an appreciation of the powerful myth that has grown up around these three sisters.
