ENGL 445 - Life-Writing: The Renaissance An exploration of biography, as a non-fiction genre practiced by modern writers. Emphasis is on understanding the literary and cultural history of the early modern period as a narrative told through the lives of early subjects and their later commentators. Subjects chosen from a variety of countries range from the statesman to the impersonator, the noblewoman to the alchemist, the king to the poet, the artist to the executioner. Materials include letters, diaries, personal reports, travel journals, and legal records. (Pre-1800 course.)
