FREN 226 - Interplay of Language, Culture, and Identity in Martinique Explores the history of resettlement and development of cultural identities on the French Caribbean island of Martinique from 1635 to the present.
The complex interdisciplinarity of the processes of créolization and cultural hybridization in Martinique is discussed within the context of the cultural narratives of the three major ethnic groups (French, African, and Indian), their reciprocal influences, and most importantly, their respective adaptive strategies to the process of resettlement. The course is taught in English.
