LATN 340 - Roman Oratory This course examines the role and development of public speaking in the Roman republic. Readings in Latin will include early rhetorical fragments (from Cato the Elder and others) and one major oration of Cicero. Several Ciceronian speeches will also be read in English translation. Equal amounts of attention will be given to analysis of style, scrutiny of argument, and study of historical context.
