HIST 318 - African American History: African Background to Emancipation (US) This is a course in the history of African American people from 1619 to 1865. The emphasis is on the transition from Africa to the New World, the slavery experience, and the transition from slavery to freedom. The ideology of racism, the formation of racial identity within the diaspora, and the importance of African American culture are also studied. (US)
