SOCI 250 - Sociological Research Design and Methods Provides a broad overview of how sociologists gather and analyze information to generate and test hypotheses about the social world. Students learn how to develop research questions and hypotheses, how to measure sociological concepts with concrete variables, how to select an appropriate and unbiased sample, and how to evaluate the ethics of the research design. Students are provided hands-on experiences conducting quantitative and qualitative research. Students engage in a range of social science methodologies, such as survey research, content analysis, qualitative interviews, participant observation, and experiments. They gain proficiency with quantitative and qualitative data analysis software.
