ALST 257 - Public Health in the Caribbean (Study Group)


Highlights public health in the Caribbean and examines key pressing global public and environmental health issues in the contemporary cultural and economic context of Jamaica. Throughout the semester students examine the history, structure, and practice of public health in the Caribbean, with Jamaica as the particular focus. Students explore the main causes of morbidity and mortality in the region, and how collaboration within and outside of the Caribbean region is leveraged to support health responses within small island nations. Key national health programs along with donor-funded and supported projects are examined, and their successes and challenges analyzed given local responses and health outcomes.
