UNST 200 - Intercultural Competence and Off Campus Study Preparedness Intercultural competence is crucial to the off campus experience. Engaging in an off campus study program provides opportunities for personal development, academic growth beyond the scope of your institution and to engage in new cultures. Alternatively, there are challenges to the off campus study experience that could be planned for and overcome. This pre-departure course is designed to equip students with the foundational skills and perspectives necessary for successful and meaningful off-campus study. Through interactive discussions, case studies, and reflective exercises, students explore key concepts of intercultural competence, including cultural awareness, communication styles, power dynamics, and adaptation strategies. Coursework fosters self-awareness and prepares students to engage ethically, respectfully, and effectively with diverse cultures and communities. By the end of the course, students are equipped with the tools that are needed to be interculturally competent and prepared for the off campus study experience.
