ENGL 318 - Post World War II American Poetry An exploration of major poets of the post World War II era. This course contextualizes the poets within the major social and political climates of the 1950s, `60s, and `70s. The impact of the Cold War, McCarthyism, the Civil Rights movement and the rise of the Black Arts Movement, and the second wave of Feminism are studied in relation to the poets emerging from these cultural milieus. Poets include Roethke, Lowell, Ginsberg, Berryman, Bishop, Plath, Sexton, Rich, Brooks, Baraka, Hayden, and others.
