HIST 105 - Introduction to the Modern Middle East (ME) This is a beginning course for study of the Middle East region, and a nuts-and-bolts primer on understanding the background for current events. Students learn the political, geographical, and social/ethnic borders that divide the region and the distribution of languages and faiths across it. The historical content of the course is a survey of the past two centuries, with emphasis on the 20th century. No prior knowledge of the Middle East is assumed. (ME)
