HIST 327 - Authoritarianism, Dictatorship, and Democracy in the Caribbean (LAC) Examines the political development of the Caribbean from European occupation and colonization to the present. The imperial and race-based societal foundations of authoritarianism in the Caribbean are studied, as are the popular democratic impulses arising especially since the end of slavery and culminating in self-governing “democratic” political regimes.
