ARTS 220 - Early Modern European Architecture (AH)


European architectural history and theory from ca.1400-1750. Students will achieve an understanding of key monuments, develop the tools to analyze architecture within its historical context, and master related, fundamental tenets of architectural theory. Thematic topics include: the impact of corporate and individual patronage on the built environment, the development of the architectural profession, the theoretical underpinnings of early modern architectural thought, and the effect of cultural contact on architectural form and function.
