BIOL 313 - Microbiology Microbiology is an incredibly broad field that involves the study of organisms that cannot be seen without the aid of a microscope. Despite their small size, microbes are a critical component of our ecosystem. This course examines the diversity of microbes in nature and their importance in human affairs from disease to agriculture. It also examines the characteristics of individual microorganisms that enable them to inhabit a particular environment. Topics include microbial cell biology, genetics, metabolism, ecology and pathogenesis.
