PSYC 366 - Psychology of Leadership

An exploration of the psychological forces that give root to human dominance, hierarchy, and leadership. Guided by evolutionary, developmental, and cross-cultural perspectives, questions about social power and leadership are addressed: To what degree are motives for social dominance–and social docility–embedded in human nature and traceable through primate evolution? What traits and competencies distinguish leaders from followers, how early do these difference develop, and is the pattern the same for girls and boys, men and women across the globe? How do some leaders and groups cultivate followers do devoted that they adhere to destructive directives? Contemporary problems in leadership provide illustrations.
