ANTH 340 - Contemporary Issues in Native American Art Examines the responses of Native American artists and critics to issues that face Native American and First Nations peoples of the United States and Canada today. The course first considers the political, social, and economic milieu in which modern and contemporary indigenous art developed. It evaluates terms such as “traditional” and “contemporary” in discussing indigenous art. The course then focuses on Native artists of the last twenty-five years and the issues addressed in their work.
